We’ve just come off the first major heatwave of the season (yes, it really did get up to 93 degrees here in Frankfurt), and while my apartment was akin to a sauna thanks to the lack of air conditioning in most German buildings, I’m so excited that summer has finally arrived.
After all, it’s the best time for ice cream:
It’s the best time for day trips:
It’s the best time for evening strolls along the Main:
It’s the best time to admire the gardens:
And it’s the best time for street festivals:
I feel like once things get really hot here, everything finally comes to life. Yes, Deutsche Bahn has a slew of heat-related delays and the U-Bahn smells like armpits. But people are outside, the sky is blue, and all I can think of is whether or not I’ll make it out of work early enough to take a dip in the pool at the Stadionbad.
Oh, and another cool thing about this time of year? The holidays.
This month, we got off for Labor Day on May 1 as well as Ascension Day on May 25. And guess what? In June, we’ll also have off on Pentecost Monday and Corpus Christi, which means plenty of time to soak up the sun.
Speaking of which, I’m going to cut this post extra short and enjoy what I can of this beautiful evening. Wherever in the world you might be, I hope things are just as sunny!
